2,996 flags outside United Way honor lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001

Community members joined the Broome County United Way this week to place American flags outside of the organization in Vestal.

The 2,996 flags pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.

Each year, the United Way organizes a Day of Caring that encourages volunteers across the county to take part in acts of kindness.

UHS is the largest participating organization in this annual event, which takes place this Friday, September 13.
